A good start is half the battle, on the pitch and in the transfer market!
After the first training sessions of the season, the practice match against Quick 20 followed. Not directly a yardstick, but it was nice to start well, and we did.
From the first minute, Ajax looked fierce and had an urge to attack. Where in the past and certainly in recent years we saw an Ajax searching for form in the first weeks, that was not the case now. They convincingly won 2-11 in the east.
The heat didn't seem to play any role; after only a few minutes, they scored. Who else but Klaas Jan was responsible for the first goals. The now 35-year-old striker immediately showed that he wants to fight for a starting place again this year.
Among the new signings, it was notable that despite conflicting reports, one was indeed brought in as a full-back. Martinez started in the left-back position and seems to be preparing to take over from Nico this season.
Throughout the day, it wasn't just about training and the practice match; the signing of Quincy Promes was also widely discussed. As we already learned last weekend that the transfer was coming, much more is yet to happen.
It seems more than clear that Overmars has set his sights on Bergwijn's arrival. What is also known is that they will go far for players Ajax wants, how far they will go compared to what they expect in the south remains to be seen.
Like Promes, Bergwijn is also open to a transfer. Overmars will want to go far, but with the signing of Promes, a player who knows the club and the city has already been brought in. Diatta from Club Brugge is among the alternatives. Besides the attack, there is also a desire to sign another central defender.
