3 points and a new record!
The third match in 8 days, after Groningen away, the second league match, now back home against Vitesse. The team from Arnhem was defeated 4-2, when for a moment it looked like a monster score was in the making.
After half-time, Ajax quickly extended their lead to 3-0 and it even looked like the 4-0 would be on the scoreboard within fifteen minutes. The VAR disallowed Ajax's fourth goal, after which a double substitution followed. It turned out to be just a bit too much, because the substitutions took the sting out of Ajax's play. Vitesse pressed, even scored a goal, and actually tried to get out of their own half more.
It was a second penalty, scored by Dusan, that definitively sealed the match. The fourth goal of the evening meant the 160th goal of this season, a record! Never before has an Eredivisie team scored so many goals in all competitions in one season.
With 2 matches still on the schedule in the league, the title is within reach. First, there will be a week of rest before we travel to London for the semi-final against Spurs. We are looking forward to it and believe in a good result in London, as every away match this year has already been a great celebration!
See you in London, see you next week!
