Hardly any Ajax shirts left
Ajax's success is proving to be a goldmine for Amsterdam sports shops. Enquiries by Het Parool at various sports shops in the city show that Ajax shirts are sold out almost everywhere.
"It's a bit like two years ago," says Rob van der Straeten of Smit-Cruyff on the Elandsgracht. "That feeling of the UEFA Cup final against Manchester United is coming back. We had bought some extra stock this season, which was a bit of a premonition we had. But almost all of that is gone too, it's been selling incredibly fast. Luckily, we still have vintage Ajax shirts, which also appeals to an older audience."
Phil Janmaat from Banne Sports in Noord only has small sizes left in his shop. "We still have some for the youngest talents, but you can tell that it's been crazy with Ajax shirts all season. Two years ago, with the UEFA Cup final, we received the new away shirts in the same week as the final. I don't know if that will happen again if we reach the Champions League final, but I hope so. Back then, those were sold out in the same week."
Reordering
At Sportpaleis in West, all Ajax shirts have also sold like hotcakes. "Just like in the rest of the city, we only have very small or very large sizes left," says Joep Bosma.
He understands why he can't reorder. "This season is almost over and the new shirts will be here soon. So producing more now makes little sense. But that's logical."
