Ajax fully committed to Steven Bergwijn's return
Ajax has set its sights on a blockbuster transfer within the Netherlands. The Amsterdam club may officially be crowned champions on Wednesday evening, but they want to deliver another blow to rivals PSV.
The Amsterdam club has made an initial approach to the management of Steven Bergwijn (21) and, now that the PSV star player is not averse to a return to Ajax and the title race is over, they want to quickly follow up on the initial talks, according to sources close to the Amsterdam club.
Director of football affairs Marc Overmars hopes to entice star player Steven Bergwijn to move to the capital. The former Ajax youth player is not immediately unwilling to return, but there are other (foreign) suitors in the running.
Bergwijn's agent, Fulco van Kooperen, confirms contact with Ajax, who will have to dig deep into their pockets. PSV will not easily give up one of their gems, and certainly not to their rival. "I cannot deny that Stevie has been discussed between Marc Overmars and me," says Van Kooperen when asked.
