Real Madrid comes knocking for Donny again
Last summer, it was already announced that Real Madrid had approached Ajax for Donny in the Johan Cruijff ArenA and had been quoted a price between fifty and sixty million by Marc Overmars. When Real Madrid also appeared to be betting on other horses and the Champions League preliminaries were approaching, Donny made the decision to remain loyal to Ajax for at least this season. A transfer seems to be in the works for next summer.
Donny's meteoric development, his selection for the Dutch national team, and his strong performances in both the league and the Champions League convinced Real Madrid to such an extent that a new top summer transfer is being worked on behind the scenes. Donny finished 28th in the Ballon d'Or election, and at the gala in Paris, the Ajax player received compliments from the big stars for his excellent play.
A transfer for Donny to Real Madrid would once again be great publicity for Ajax's flagship, its youth academy. Last summer, his former teammates Frenkie de Jong and Matthijs de Ligt already moved to FC Barcelona and Juventus.
A multi-year contract awaits Donny in the Spanish capital. The midfielder himself and his agents did not want to comment on the impending transfer to De Telegraaf on Thursday. Real Madrid also remained silent. Los Blancos could still face Van de Beek in the Champions League knockout stage. Meanwhile, Donny will be in action tonight against Willem II, on Tuesday against Valencia for a spot in the Champions League knockout phase, and then in the top league match against AZ. Donny only wishes to focus on that series.
