Tagliafico: 'I am very happy in Amsterdam, the people there love me'

Nico recently agreed with Ajaxx that he will be gracing the Johan Cruijff ArenA for at least another season. The Argentinian full-back won the national title and the TOTO KNVB Cup last season and reached the semi-finals of the Champions League. This generated interest from Italy and Spain, but a transfer is not an option for now.

“We have jointly decided to continue the collaboration for at least another season. In a year, I can still make a transfer,” Tagliafico explains to Goal on Thursday. “By reaching the Champions League semi-finals, Ajax is one of the strongest teams in Europe. I am very happy in Amsterdam; the people there love me. I want to enjoy it there for at least another season, then we'll see what happens.”

The Ajax left-back is preparing for the Copa América in Brazil, from June 14 to July 7. According to him, Argentina is not starting the tournament as the top favourite. “We are not thinking about winning the title at all yet. We mainly want to leave a good impression. Of course, we all dream of the title, but this team is in a transition period, so winning is not an absolute must.”
