Ajax superior
Ajax secured the TOTO KNVB Cup on Sunday. The Amsterdam team proved too strong for Willem II in De Kuip, who were already 0-2 down at halftime due to goals from Daley Blind and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar. In the second half, Huntelaar and Rasmus Kristensen further extended the score, and after ninety minutes, the victory was a fact: 0-4. Ajax thus claims the first prize of the season. The Amsterdam team also still has a chance at both the national championship and the Champions League.
Both coaches surprised with their lineups for the final in De Kuip. Huntelaar, Noussair Mazraoui, and Kristensen were given a starting spot for Ajax at the expense of Lasse Schöne, Joël Veltman, and David Neres, while Adrie Koster also made some notable changes for Willem II. For example, Marios Vrousai and Daniel Crowley were benched so that Willem II would have more chances for a good result in a different formation, Koster reasoned prior to the cup match.
Ajax was superior and stepped on the gas after half an hour of play; within a few minutes, the difference was made, and it was already clear that the cup could no longer escape the Amsterdam team.
The cup win means the first prize this season, a nice boost on our way Wednesday!
